Cheng Kar-Shun Robotics Institute (CKSRI) is a pioneer of transferring research results to market products. Good ideas are realized to change the world. In recent years, several companies were spin-off from CKSRI and there will be more and more in future.

Googol Technology

Professor LI Zexiang set up Googol Technology in 1997. Googol Technology is the first high-tech company in Asia Pacific region specializing in R&D, production, marketing, and support of motion controllers and controller based systems. Googol Technology’s motion controllers and systems are applied in wide range of industries including semiconductor / microelectronics, plastic injection molding, and CNC machine tool. Regional application engineering expertise, strong support, cost effectiveness, and high performance set Googol Technology apart from all others.


DJI is a technology company founded in 2006 by Frank Wang, who is one of HKUST’s alumnus and from ATC(Automation Technology Center, the predecessor of RI). It is headquartered in Shenzhen, Guangdong province, China. The main products of DJI include a range of products like flying cameras (ex. Inspire and Phantom series), flying platforms, flight controllers for multi rotors, accessories for helicopters, camera gimballs (aerial, handheld) and ground stations. These products are for industrial, professional and amateur use.

QKM Technology

QKM is a technology company specializing in development, production, sales and applications of high-end efficient robotic arms. It is dedicated to providing different enterprises comprehensive and end-to-end solutions to facilitate the industries’ productivities. 

ePropulsion Technology

ePropulsion Technology is funded in 2012 by 4 HKUST students from ATC with a HKU student. ePropulsion is a new provider of clean outboard motor and is dedicated to manufacturing new electric outboards with high performance and designing clean power system for boats.
