Dr. Yao is an Assistant Professor at the Division of Integrative Systems and Design (ISD) at HKUST. Before joining HKUST, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) from 2024 to 2026. He obtained the Ph.D. degree in 2023 and completed a year of postdoctoral training at City University of Hong Kong (CityU). He completed the bachelor’s degree in Energy Engineering in 2019 at Zhejiang University (ZJU). Dr. Yao’s research focuses on flexible electronics and bioelectronic systems for sensory enhancement and personalized health management, which include technologies of soft and wearable electronics, implantable electronics, biosensors and stimulators, and haptic interfaces. His work has been published on Nature Machine Intelligence, Nature Electronics, Science Advances, Nature Communications, Chemical Society Reviews, Matter, etc.
